Vehicle Tips
The cooling system should be completely flushed and refilled about every 24 months. The level, condition, and concentration of coolant should be checked. (A 50/50 mix of anti-freeze and water is usually recommended.)
Vehicle Tips
Never remove the radiator cap until the engine has thoroughly cooled. The tightness and condition of drive belts, clamps and hoses should be checked by a pro.
Vehicle Tips
Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual, or more often (every 3,000 miles) if you make frequent short jaunts, extended trips with lots of luggage or tow a trailer.
Vehicle Tips
Replace other filters (air, fuel, PCV, etc.) as recommended, or more often in dusty conditions. Get engine drivability problems (hard stops, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected at a good shop.
Vehicle Tips
A dirty windshield causes eye fatigue and can pose a safety hazard. Replace worn blades and get plenty of windshield washer solvent.
Vehicle Tips
Have your tires rotated about every 5,000 miles. Check tire pressures once a month; let the tires cool down first. Don't forget your spare and be sure your jack is in good condition.
Vehicle Tips
Check your owner's manual to find out what fuel octane rating your car's engine needs then buy it.
Vehicle Tips
Keep your tires inflated to the proper levels. Under-inflated tires make it harder for your car to move down the road, which means your engine uses more fuel to maintain speed.
Vehicle Tips
Lighten the load. Heavier vehicles use more fuel, so clean out unnecessary weight in the passenger compartment or trunk before you hit the road.
Vehicle Tips
Use the A/C sparingly. The air conditioner puts extra load on the engine forcing more fuel to be used.
Vehicle Tips
Keep your windows closed. Wide-open windows, especially at highway speeds, increase aerodynamic drag and the result is up to a 10% decrease in fuel economy.
Vehicle Tips
Avoid long idling. If you anticipate being stopped for more than one minute, shut off the car. Contrary to popular belief, restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle.
Vehicle Tips
Stay within posted speed limits. The faster you drive, the more fuel you use. For example, driving at 65 miles per hour (mph) rather than 55 mph, increases fuel consumption by 20 percent.
Vehicle Tips
Use cruise control. Using cruise control on highway trips can help you maintain a constant speed and, in most cases, reduce your fuel consumption.
Vehicle Tips
Keep your engine tuned. A fouled spark plug or plugged/restricted fuel injector can reduce fuel efficiency as much as 30 percent.
Vehicle Tips
Inspect the engine's belts regularly. Look for cracks or missing sections or segments. Worn belts will affect the engine performance.
Vehicle Tips
Have the fuel filter changed every 10,000 miles to prevent rust, dirt and other impurities from entering the fuel system.
Vehicle Tips
Change the transmission fluid and filter every 15,000 to 18,000 miles. This will protect the precision-crafted components of the transmission/transaxle.
Vehicle Tips
Inspect the suspension system regularly. This will extend the life of the vehicle's tires.

They do good work here. They have helped fix both my cars - and one of my cars is almost 50 years old and they rebuilt the transmission and it works great now.

Russ made this experience as great as possible which took a lot of patience dealing with a warranty company. He's everything you look for in an Auto technician which are hard to find. He and his employees are a class act and very trustworthy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! Thanks again

I walked into this establishment and was greeted very professionally and respectfully by Trevor and immediately felt this was the place to repair my car. I had issues with my power steering after my serpentine belt fell off and the repair shop that put the belt back on left me without power steering. That repair shop was just focused on recall on power steering motor eventhough I did not have an issue prior to entering that shop. After multiple times explaining the recall was fixed I was still left without power steering. I was recommended to Wilmington transmission after talking to a gentleman and he said go see Russ at wiilmington repair. Within a few hours they were able to identify the issue and fix at a very reasonable cost. I cannot say enough about this experience except thank you to them and the gentleman that recommended them. Thank you Russ and Trevor

Someone recommended this company to me as I was having power steering issue and I was greeted very professionally and respectfully when I walked through the door which instantly made me feel like I was going to be serviced the same way and sure enough I was. I cannot say enough about this experience. My car was ready in a short time and very reasonable bill. My only regret is that I didnâ?Tt go there sooner. Thank you Trevor and Russ and to the gentleman that referred me to them. If you are having mechanical issues check them out you will be glad you did.

Russ and his son Trevor have worked on a few of our older vehicles (son and daughter's vehicles) and I've always been happy with their work. They always call with an estimate of work needed and price and always get the work done on time. They are the best mechanics I've used in a long time. Thanks Russ and Trevor I really appreciate your good work.

Although I didn't have any work done by them, I did have a very technical transmission question that they answered very professionally and courteously. Thank you.

First time customer of Wilmington Auto. I brought my son's 2007 Saturn Aura with 215k miles in for various work. Russ listened to my description of the issues and let me know that the cost was worth it even in a car with as many miles on it as it had. He later called to tell me that additional problems had been found (we knew, we had ignored it). He was upfront with the cost of the additional repairs and the time needed to complete them. We were pleased with the work and the cost. We did follow up with one small issue. It was taken care of promptly. I was very happy with the level of communication and the work that was done. Will recommend Wilmington Auto and Transmission for service.

I want to thank Russ for his honesty and integrity, I had recently had my car serviced at a dealer. I was getting some noise while driving. I dropped my car of at Wilmington Trans at 8:00. By 8:30 they called and Russ told me he noticed some new parts on the undercarriage and found the problem was shotty workmanship at the dealer! He told me I should take the car back to the dealer and have them correct the problem. With no cost to me, I did as he advised and got the problem fixed for free! Many thanks.

My 2010 Kia soul was having trouble shifting and would not go into park. I brought the Kia to Commonwealth Kia and they told me I needed a new transmission as the selector shaft was rusted. I thought it was the shifter cable and decided to bring it to Wilmington Auto Repair. After only talking to the mechanic for a short time about the symptoms he said it was the shifter cable and an hour later after leaving the car there he called to tell me that it was the shifter cable and he would replace it for a very reasonable price. I was refreshed at how honest they were about the repairs and the repairs were done in a very timely manner. I would recommend them to anyone who does not want to be scammed by dealerships. Overall I am very happy with their service and I will be bringing my car there in the near future for any service needs.

Russ is a fantastic mechanic that I've been using for years. So good I sent all of the neighbors on my street to him (all of which have been happy with his service). He is reputable and only fixes things that you need done. I brought my car to the dealership and they were going to charge me $900 to replace a rear quarter panel for an automatic door closing issue. Russ took the car in, cleaned the door contacts and charged me $30.
Good guy with a great team of people working for him. Definitely check out Wilmington Transmission

I have been bringing my cars to Russ for many years. He is honest and trustworthy. He treats customers with respect and does not try to sell services you don't need. I appreciate the layman terms he uses, so that I understand what he is actually doing to my vehicle and why. He recently added even more services, so I will continue to have him maintain and repair all my vehicles.

Wilmington Transmission & Services is the ONLY place I will take my car for any repair they perform. I have been doing business with Russ for close to 25 years and he is the most reputable, honest, hard-working, fair & kind auto technician I have ever dealt with. His senior technician, Scott, is also phenomenal. The work they perform is done to the highest of standards at a fraction of what dealerships charge. They are sincere about their evaluation and always strive for perfection. No work is done sub-par and all work that is done, is absolutely necessary. Scott & Russ will always find the most cost effective way to repair your car. I highly recommend Wilmington Transmission & Services! You will never go anywhere else!

I first met Russ several years ago when I needed a $3.00 light bulb - he said "No charge, maybe when you need an oil change, you'll come back" I did, and have been a customer ever since!
Lynn Muphy
I brought my car into Russ, without an appointment. My car would not go into drive and was making a terrible scraping sound when I took a right hand turn. Russ was open and upfront with me about the cost of the repairs and whether it was worth fixing. Russ's honesty was very refreshing, I can not thank him enough. I would recommend Wilmington Auto Repair to anyone that asks.
